Beto:

Que haces tan lejos?

Miguel Candela:

Miguel Candela (born in Spain in 1985) discovered photography during his stay in Connecticut, USA where he had his first contact with classical photography. On his last year of university, and despite of his young age, Miguel Candela obtained first and third prize in photography contest organized by "Boston Press Photography Association" (BPPA) as well as became a finalist of the contests organized by "Photographer's Forum Magazine" and "National Geographic 2008" (Spain´s national contest).Since his beginnings in the art of the photography, he was always trying to showing up the way of being and living of the people whose have been catch and shot by his camera, getting focus on the social facet. Miguel affirms that "Every person has its own and unique history and thus, on its way, every individual has its intrigue story to tell".Consequently by his photographs he tries to satisfy his restlessness about humanity and to comprehend and therefore be able to transmit, by the photography, the diverse cultures, costumes, inquietuds and situations where the mankind is coexisting everyday. On these days, he is working on different projects in Hong Kong and China.

Miguel Candela's exhibition commemorates the Children´s Day in Hong Kong, 4th of April, reminds us the importance of children in the world and their situation.

With the participation of the NGO "Doctors Without Frontiers" (MSF), charity funds will be granted to MSF programs in Africa hence children can achieve a more prosperous future. When these children are up every morning, they only face a continuous fight and death may come upon them. Since the day, they were born only few of them are able to grow older as they fight against their obstacles.

Children do not only faces physical fights or war but they have fight against starvation, diseases, the lack of education and living in injustice everyday.Miguel Candela is not afraid to face the truth in Mali.

Children do not understand why they have to beg for money and starve everyday. Children should not be concern about either issue, because these are issues that adults can't even find a resolution for. Therefore, children should just be able to act as children in their own environment and not having to worry about anything.

Miguel Candela's photographs recreates hope for children, those children who can still have faith and enjoy their childhood, and hoping that one day their conditions will change.Years ago the UN requested that the richest countries were to give the 0,7 percent of their gross profit to the poorest countries. However, such egoistic amount never took place not even until this day. With the economic crisis today, no one is concern about these issues any more.

However, these issues are really important and cannot be easily ignored. This exhibition does it, by donating the 30 percent of the benefits to the NGO Doctors without Frontiers (MSF). As long as we are able to do something about this, there would be no reason to believe that these children will not have a prosperous future; where they can play as normal any other children.
